Welcome to the website of Gretna and Springfield’s Heritage Trails, which is hosted by the Gretna and Rigg Community Council and the Springfield and Gretna Green Community Council.

The Heritage Trails initiative is a sub-project of the Gretna Masterplan and has been built up over the past four years. The aim of this is to look at, not only the wedding history which the Gretna area is well-known for, but the wider picture of what the area has to offer. This includes the munitions and the worst rail disaster in British history, Quintinshill.

These trails will give those that want to walk them more information on a small, but very historical place in the United Kingdom.

As Chairman of the group that brought this project to life, I am extremely grateful for the help received from the community councils, Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership (DGHP), the local authority, Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) and everyone else who has helped bring this to fruition.

I hope you enjoy this website, the trails and your stay in the area and that your experience is a good one that you can pass onto friends, family and colleagues.

You will find a warm welcome throughout the area.

Please use our feedback page and let us know what you think of the website and the trails in general. We would be delighted to hear from you if there is anything you feel we could improve on.
